"Some albums featured Mike’s stable of acts: Joseph War, Jean Lantree, Audio Andre, the Duet Close. Like Berry Gordy, he had formed a host of imprints: Minger, Ramit, Relations, Evil, Sex, Decision, and (what else?) Fake. The output was varied: There was a Bruce Lee tribute, a sickle cell anemia benefit set, a collection of songs protesting the Vietnam war, and a live anthology purportedly cut at the Howard Theatre, D.C.’s soul temple of the ’60s. There were soundtracks to blaxploitation pictures (Hot Rodd) and kung fu epics (Brotherhood of the Dragon). He even fabricated fake 45s and 78s. (My favorite title: 'Last Night I Thought I Was Bruce,' by Steve Frightened and His Nightmares, on the Spooky imprint.)"
