Will Bush Resign?
George W. Bush still has over thirty months left in office. Anything can happen in that time, of course, and few observers, if any, predicted his rapid slide in support since January 2005. But, as seen in these two charts by political scientist Charles Franklin, he is on course to be the least popular president facing a midterm congressional election since 1950. If the Democrats take the House and Senate and begin investigations, much more information about the president, vice president, and defense secretary (who was publically challenged on May 4 by the man who briefed President George H.W. Bush daily) will come to light. If a Democratic House brought impeachment charges against Bush in 2007 or 2008, would he resign?
